If you don’t already know of Lucie Rie, she is considered one of the pioneer’s of British studio pottery, and in my opinion so ahead of her time. Not only are her pots timeless in design, by being able to seamlessly fit into any contemporary collection, but her approach to pottery also fit with modern trends. It maybe very popular now to create pots or “vessels” as an art form, but in her time it was an strange notion, pots were made to function. Pottery as art now being established and accepted, we are moving back towards functional handmade pottery becoming popular once more. Everything old becomes new again.
